Creative Services Manager

How long have you been with Bernard Hodes Group?
I have been with Hodes just under two years.

Tell us a little about your position. What does a Creative Services Manager do and what is a typical day like?
My main role is to manage collateral workflow and print production. Formulating options, estimates and ideas with the creative and account teams to make not only a beautiful piece, but one that is functional and within budget. Establishing and maintaining outside relationships with various vendors.

A typical day consists of constant multitasking and a tremendous amount of communication, both internally and externally. Meeting deadlines as close as possible, prioritizing and staying informed as projects evolve on a high volume scale. I may be on press at 7 a.m. downtown, or in my office glued to my computer all day. Each day holds unexpected situations and keeps me on my toes at all times.

Describe a highlight of your career here.
This is an easy answer. It would definitely be the day that George and I were invited for a helicopter ride. Not only my first helicopter ride ever, but piloted by our client … the NYPD! I was able to capture images that were unimaginable, images that would be impossible to shoot in a privately owned helicopter, due to post 9/11 no-fly zones. The whole event was quite surreal and awesome in so many ways.

I am a native New Yorker and I thought I had seen it all, viewing NYC from the ground up is a totally different experience than seeing it from the sky down. Hello Statue of Liberty! It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and it simply took my breath away.

What would you say the company culture is like at Hodes?
It feels like your part of a small family inside a big family. In other words, the closeness and respect people share day-to-day give it that intimate small family feeling, but with the capabilities and services of a large prominent family.

What I find most prevalent in the people here at Hodes is a sense of pride and value in their work. That what we create or do makes a difference, not only for our clients, but for us, too. Secondly, teamwork. It takes a tremendous amount of effort to have a successful project and no project is done by an individual. Whether two people or a team of twenty, good teamwork creates the solutions and creativity needed for success.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I graduated with a BFA, so I try to continue my art in my spare time. Selling a lot of my artwork through consignment or commissioned work is gratifying, but often difficult to produce enough due to lack of time. I love printmaking, oil painting and plaster relief.

I also do lots and lots of beach combing, surfing and fishing. The other side of me is very domesticated. I love to just be home with my family or friends and enjoy a new recipe, or talk in front of a fire with a great bottle of wine.
