The City of New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
Job Fair
ASSESS
The City of New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene was facing shortages of School Nurses in both public and non-public Schools. To have an increased presence in every school, they were looking for a successful campaign to attract 100 Nurses. Discrepancies in salary and benefits for Nurses in different city departments only added to the challenge.
STRATEGIZE
To meet the task, Hodes ran focus groups with current school Nurses to identify what motivated them most in their jobs. To ensure the highest quality applicants, only qualified RNs in the local areas in which the client was recruiting were targeted.
IMPLEMENT
As the client had previous Job Fair success, three new events were launched in the prime recruiting months of June, July and September. Hodes directly targeted the local RN candidate pool with engaging e-blasts and direct mail postcards. Traffic was then directed to an on-boarding site, which allowed RNs to submit their information and pre-register for the event. It also enabled Hodes to obtain background information such as degree, years of experience, specialty area and location preference.
MEASURE
The first two-day event was held in Brooklyn and targeted RNs in Brooklyn and Queens. 50 RNs were hired at the end of this fair. The second and third events took place in Manhattan and the Bronx, and brought in 25 and 27 additional hires respectively. The total hires for this successful promotion came to 102 RNs, exceeding the stated goal quickly and cost-effectively for The City of New York.
