AONE 2005 - Creating the Blueprint of the Future

Hyatt Regency Chicago, Chicago, IL
April 15-19

Overview

The AONE (American Organization of Nurse Executives) 38th Annual Meeting and Exposition took place in Chicago, IL. With its theme of “Creating the Blueprint of the Future”, this comprehensive event celebrated nursing leadership. In a unique twist this year, each day of the meeting focused on a different theme: stewards of leadership, creating positive and healthy work environments, future patient care delivery models, and celebrating nurses and the nursing profession.

This educational conference offered plenty of opportunities for nurses to strengthen their nursing leadership knowledge and skills. Sessions and workshops provided information on such topics as if Disney ran your hospital, leadership as habit of mind, translating clinical research into practice and the human face of medical error. Participants were also invited to attend book signings and hear from dynamic and inspiring speakers.

In addition, attendees networked with peers and were entertained at the fundraiser with the Blue Man Group, the president's reception at Kaleidoscope, and the closing presentation with Second City.

The speakers

Sandy Haeberle, senior vp of our Health Care Division, and Kate Christmas, vp of our Health Care Division, presented “Ensuring the Future Nursing Workforce: Working with State Entry into Nursing Initiatives”. With a focus on sharing our success with statewide nursing initiatives, this presentation provided an inside look at the pro bono work we did for such organizations as the North Carolina Center for Nursing and the Virginia Partnership for Nursing. The ultimate goal was to provide attendees with the knowledge, strategies and creative examples to allow them to start or enhance similar initiatives in their own states.

The booth

This year, we were proud to show off our new vendor booth. With an emphasis on the importance of talent, our booth featured oversized photos and an interactive slide show, and really drew in the crowds. We also gave each attendee who stopped by one of our special men in nursing T-shirts.
