Hodes/ADVANCE "Talking to Talent" Allied Health Care and Nursing Surveys
Health care professionals speak out on recruitment and retention efforts
In partnership with ADVANCE Newsmagazines, the Hodes Health Care Division conducted eight surveys for allied health and one for nursing professionals. These online surveys ran from October 1 to December 17, 2004.
The surveys were developed to gain a broader understanding of the work preferences, attitudes about employment, and job-seeking and media habits of today's health care professionals.
Each survey examined a number of key topics, including:
- reasons for joining current employer
- primary methods of finding job opportunities
- regularly read health care publications and employment websites visited
- most important aspects of a career website and recruitment materials
Our analysis of the results uncovered a number of interesting insights into why these professionals join and leave employers. More specifically, our survey revealed that respondents joined their present employers because of better work schedules (38%), growth opportunities (31%) and better compensation (31%). In contrast, they left their previous employers because those companies did not value employees (26%) or displayed a lack of professional respect for their workforces (25%), and there was a lack of growth potential (23%).

"The 2005 Hodes/ADVANCE Survey of Nurses provides insightful data and strategies for recruiting and retaining RNs, LPN/LVNs, and nurse practitioners. The report is an invaluable tool for improving recruitment and retention programs and practices."

Allied Health Professionals Surveys - 1,721 respondents
First-ever surveys of eight allied health disciplines
“Bernard Hodes Group is once again breaking new ground by conducting thiscomprehensive survey across a variety of allied health professions in collaboration with ADVANCE Newsmagazines. Physicians and nurses have always been the “high profile” providers of health care, but allied health represents a much higher percentage of the health care workforce.
Individual professional associations and groups have always done this type of survey among their membership, but Hodes represents a new format for study of these diverse groups of health care professionals.
The results of this survey will provide much needed information for employers and professional groups in their efforts to meet the needs of and retain their current professional staff and members. The information will also be valuable to educational institutions as they work with employers and professional associations to recruit the workforce of the future.
This is another example of how Hodes is partnering with health care groups to maintain and build the health care workforce. With all of their activity with so many health care groups on a variety of programs and projects, Hodes is truly a major partner in the health care workforce today and for the future.”
