Top 10 Tips for Successful Diversity Recruitment Programs

  1. Assess current diversity initiatives, successes and shortcomings

  2. Obtain data on current employee population, including statistics on ethnicity, education, source of hire and years with your organization

  3. Link hiring and recruitment budget to business and strategic plan objectives

  4. Establish measurable goals and objectives for all functions in the organization

  5. Obtain buy-in from senior executive team and line leadership

  6. Select candidate role models as 'brand' ambassadors and spokespersons, to promote diversity hiring initiatives

  7. Provide training, guidance and "fast facts" tools to educate executive leadership, hiring managers and employees on the business case and sourcing strategies for diversity recruiting

  8. Create recruiting messages that are honest, compelling and credible, and reflect the seriousness of the purpose

  9. Select advertising images that resonate with your prospective hires

  10. Create a system--i.e., coding, URL to splash page, intranet, etc.--to capture resumes, feed a diverse candidate pool and measure the success of program components
